Shadowheart Romance Guide

Before you can get a chance with Shadowheart for a romance scene, you’ll need to make some progress in Baldur’s Gate 3. Also, it's extremely important to try and make your decisions with her approval in mind. There are many times throughout the story and moments back at the campsite with Shadowheart that can influence her opinion of you. If you have a negative relationship with her, she won’t have any interest in you when it matters.

Shadowheart Approval and Disapproval Guide

Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the most important aspect when it comes to romancing a character. No matter which character you may be aiming for, making sure their approval of you is high should always be step one.

Shadowheart, like all characters has a distinct personality and things she approves of and inversely things she dislikes, so long as you're able to maintain a consistent personality that can appeal to Shadowheart's traits, gaining approval with her should be simple.

Shadowheart is a mixed bag when it comes to approval and disapproval. Rather than being largely heroic or largely villainous, her needs are somewhat right down the middle, with a slight lean towards heroism. This can make her a bit hard to gain approval with, but once you get to know her, you'll realize she's just like anyone else, with just a slightly rougher edge.

With that said, here's a list of things Shadowheart approves and disapproves of.

Shadowheart Approval List

• Kindness towards children
• Kindness towards animals
• Avoiding unnecessary violence where possible with persuasion or manipulation
• Showing distrust towards the Gith
• Fighting against oppression
• Allowing her to be faithful to Shar where possible

Shadowheart Disapproval List

• Not respecting her boundaries
• Getting involved in things that aren't your problem
• Humiliating others
• Choosing unnecessary violence
• Siding with oppressors
• Showing trust towards the Gith

Shadowheart is a very private person, but she's not without compassion. So long as you don't go sticking your nose in other people's business, whether it be her's or another person's, without reason, she'll be a good companion for those seeking the path of righteousness.

It's also worth nothing that Shadowheart is diametrically opposed to Lae'zel in their beliefs, which can lead to fights and conflicts between the two. Generally, appealing to one will lead to disapproval from the other and vice-versa, so exercise caution when trying to partner these companions together in the same party.

How to Romance Shadowheart in Act 1

After completing the mainline story quest Rescuing the Druid Halsin and finishing the side quest Save the Refugees, you'll be able to have a celebration in your campsite at the end of the day with a long rest. Now that everyone’s celebrating, talk to Shadowheart and follow these choices below.

• Tieflings?
• Are you worried Shar won’t approve?
• I'd be glad to. (if she asks to share a bottle)
• I'll find you after everyone’s turned in for the night.

Now that you have Shadowheart's attention, use the bedroll near the campfire to speed up time.

You'll get a scene with Shadowheart by the cliff. In order to keep Shadowheart entertained, just be sure not to select any of the options at the bottom, which show you're disinterested or in a hurry to leave. Otherwise, just let the scene play out, where you'll get a chance to share a kiss with Shadowheart at the end.

The next time you speak to Shadowheart in camp, make sure to reaffirm your relationship with her in order to continue pursuing her as a romantic partner.

How to Romance Shadowheart in Act 2

Unlike other companions, Shadowheart's scene that progresses her romance is a scene that you'll be required to get during the main quest so long as you have Shadowheart in your party. Following your major decision regarding the Nightsong in Act 2, you can see one of two different scenes, which will then lock you into the scene you'll ultimately get with her in Act 3.

Aligning with Selûne in Act 2

If you spared the Nightsong, make sure you invite Isobel and Dame Aylin to your camp after defeating Ketheric in battle. Talk to her and have them reveal Shadowheart's past to her, then speak to Shadowheart about it and pick any of the options while talking to her and it will end with her needing to do something.

The next time you long rest after this conversation, you'll notice Shadowheart change her hair color. She'll mention how she wanted to try something new in Selûne's honor. This scene can trigger in Act 3 as well, after the forced rest at the beginning of the Act, so don't worry if you didn't trigger it in Act 2.

Aligning With Shar in Act 2

If you killed the Nightsong, Shadowheart will have a prompt one of the next times you're in camp. You can pick any of the options while talking to her and it will end with her needing to do something.

The next time you long rest after this conversation, you'll notice Shadowheart change her hairstyle. Tell her she looks nice and she'll tell you it's closer to Lady Shar's. This scene can trigger in Act 3 as well, after the forced rest at the beginning of the Act, so don't worry if you didn't trigger it in Act 2.

How to Romance Shadowheart in Act 3

Like Act 2, the scenes you'll see within Act 3 are dependent on which path you allowed Shadowheart to follow. The choices you make during Shadowheart's companion quest will not alter the scene you'll see once you've locked in your path.

Aligning with Selûne in Act 3

If you spared the Nightsong in Act 2, then following the completion of Shadowheart's Companion Quest, meet up with her in camp when she has an exclamation point over her head. This may not trigger immediately, so try and talk to her whenever you get the chance. She'll talk about how she still feel Shar's presence washing over her. You can select any option for the first prompt, then agree to go along with Shadowheart. Head over to your bedroll to advance to the next scene when you're ready.

Shadowheart will bring you to the beach and ask you to strip. Pick the following options:

• "There's easier ways to get me naked, you know"
• "You first"

You can choose to peek or not to, you'll get an additional scene if you peek though, where Shadowheart throws her clothes at you.

• "Hard not to. You're beautiful"

From here, pick any of the options to the next prompt. Then you'll get to watch the next scene where you skinny dip with Shadowheart and then spend a romantic evening together on the beach, completing your romance with her!

Aligning With Shar in Act 3

If you killed the Nightsong in Act 2, then following the completion of Shadowheart's Companion Quest, meet up with her in camp when she has an exclamation point over her head. This may not trigger immediately, so try and talk to her whenever you get the chance. She'll talk about the upcoming battle and how you may not get another night with her like this. You can pick any of the options for the first prompt, then choose the following options:

• "Why me?"
• "As you wish"

Afterwards, head over to your bedroll to trigger the next scene with her. You two will approach an Idol of Selûne together. Pick the following options:

• "What's that? More wine?"
• "Not at all. So now we feast?"
• Kiss her

This will lead to a romance scene with Shadowheart, and quite a wicked one, as she'd describe herself.

That will be the last of Shadowheart's romance scenes you can see with her. Whether or not you helped her align with Shar or Selûne, you'll still have captured her heart all the same.
